Some of these features include:
1. No upgrade path to Windows 7 – Most of the applications of Microsoft have upgrade options from their Office applications, visual studio, development tools, etc. Why not the operating system? Microsoft has been vocal that the jump from Windows XP to Windows 7 is harder and probably more expensive than going from XP to Vista to Windows 7. They really made sure it was that hard as the only option to upgrade Windows XP to Win 7 is a fresh installation.
2. Device stage – the concept is good as hardware manufacturers get their own screen where users can get more information and links from it. Nonetheless, average consumers wouldn’t care and they just want a plug and play user friendly setup of hardware configurations.
3. Restart please – Microsoft just couldn’t get away with system restarts and updates would mean restarting your operating system. On the other hand, geeky people can pause and get a glass of water. Who knows, Windows restarts is the only time they can take a break.
The negatives in Windows 7 isn’t that big of a deal and I don’t think it should discourage folks from upgrading to the new operating system.
