What Is Catfishing and How To Avoid Getting Netted?

When I mention 'Catfishing' I'm not talking about the catching those Whiskered Fish. What The 'Catfishing' I'm talking about is, its a Dating Scam.

It works by a Man or Woman masquerading as someone else online with the intention of luring an unsuspecting Victim into thinking that the are hooking up with a potential Partner.

The 'Catfisher' maybe doing this for a laugh or something more sinister, like with the case of American Football Star Manti Te'o.


Anyone can easily be caught out with the Catfish Scam but with this excellent advice below from Microsoft Security then you can protect yourself.
3 ways to help avoid catfishing
  • Always remember that people on the other end of online conversations might not be who they say they are. Treat all emails and social networking messages with caution when they come from someone you don’t know.
  • Never share your passwords, even with someone you trust. If you think your accounts have been compromised, change your passwords as soon as possible.
  • If you suspect that someone is catfishing you, report them.
